STATE OF CALIFORNIA MANDATES CONCUSSION TRAINING

As you may already be aware Governor Brown has signed Assembly Bill 1451, mandating Concussion Training for all high school public school coaches, paid or unpaid, every two years, training that reviews recognizing the signs and symptoms of concussions. The law takes effect January 1, 2013. The law does not mandate that public school coaches who have already started the winter sports season (basketball, wrestling and those schools who participate in winter soccer" to complete the training in order to continue coaching January 1, 2013. The new law mandates that starting on January 1, 2013 any public school who is required to renew their CPR and/or First Aid training must also complete a short course on concussion signs and symptoms.  To help CIF member school coaches meet this new requirement a free 20 minute on-line class is provided from the National Federation of High School State Associations (NFHS) and the California Interscholastic Federation.  The free video is provided at the following link:
