Department of Justice fingerprint clearance must be completed prior to the first day of employment for all positions at a cost of approximately $20-$35 to the employee. Volunteers/chaperones must also have fingerprints and Tuberculosis clearance prior to volunteering or chaperoning.
Substitute teachers should contact the Humboldt County Office of Education Personnel Department at 707.445.7039 for fingerprinting in order to be cleared for more than one school district.
California Education Code Section 4940:
No person shall be initially employed by a school district in a certificated or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination in the last 60 days to determine that he/she is free of active tuberculosis by a physician and surgeon licensed under Chapter 5 (commencing at Section 2000) of Division Two of the Business and Professions Code. This examination, which, if positive, shall be followed by an X-ray of the lungs.
Thereafter, all employees shall be required to undergo the foregoing examination at least once each four years, or more often if directed by the governing board upon recommendation of the local health officer.
